What is a Small Stash in Rust?

Learn what a Small Stash is in Rust, how to craft and use it, and why it's essential for hiding loot in the early game. A must-know survival tip!

What is a Small Stash in Rust?

In the world of Rust, where betrayal is just another Tuesday and your so-called “teammates” would sell you out for a rock and half a pumpkin, keeping your loot safe is everything. Enter the Small Stash—a humble, easily craftable storage solution that lets you hide your valuables underground, away from prying eyes and sticky fingers.

How to Craft a Small Stash

Good news: crafting a Small Stash won’t drain your resources. It only costs 10 Cloth, which you can get by harvesting hemp or tearing up that sleeping bag your friend left out in the open (sorry, Tim). It takes 15 seconds to craft, and you don’t even need a workbench—because let’s be honest, you probably don’t have one yet.

How to Use a Small Stash

  1. Place It: Select the Small Stash from your hotbar and put it on the ground. Pick a spot that’s hidden but not so hidden that you’ll forget where it is (looking at you, guy who buried his stash in a random bush and never found it again).
  2. Fill It: You can store up to six items or stacks in a Small Stash. Perfect for hiding early-game essentials like metal frags, gunpowder, or that key to your twig shack.
  3. Bury It: Interact with the stash, and it will disappear underground. Now it’s invisible—unless someone watched you do it, in which case, congratulations, you just set up a loot delivery service.
  4. Retrieve It: Stare at the stash’s general location for a couple of seconds, and it will rise from the dirt like some cursed treasure from a bad pirate movie. Just hope no one else was staring at the same spot.

Why Use a Small Stash?

  • Early-Game Loot Protection: Before you have a base, a Small Stash is your best bet for hiding loot from door campers and random nakeds who would club you to death for fun.
  • Hiding Backup Supplies: Even late-game, pros use Small Stashes to squirrel away spare resources in case their main base gets raided.
  • Stealthy Deposits: If you live in a high-traffic area, sometimes it’s safer to stash loot and retrieve it later rather than making a noisy trip back to base.

TLDR

Small Stashes cost 10 Cloth, store 6 items, and can be buried for stealthy loot protection. Happy hiding!
