Softcore Changes Incoming

Softcore mode has landed on the staging branch – that special flavour of Rust where raiding is slightly less traumatic and dying doesn’t always mean losing everything. You’ll still need to find a softcore-enabled server to actually test it. Good luck with that.
Rustadia doesn’t run softcore. Never has, probably never will – unless Facepunch adds cuddle zones and participation trophies. But for the curious, here’s what’s new. All of this is subject to change, but it’s looking like part of the 3rd April force wipe.
Softcore Update Rundown
- Boxes, furnaces, lockers, fridges, etc. now drop half their loot and a corpse. Base owner can repair it to get the rest. Like a refund for getting raided.
- Tool Cupboards leave a corpse and temporary block zone when destroyed. Congrats, now you get to respawn and stare at your broken TC like it’s your fault (it probably is).
- Beds, bags, towels also drop a corpse. You get one bonus spawn. Enjoy it.
- Upkeep is easier. Guess that’s nice if you hate logging in.
- On death: lose all your clothes, half your belt, half your inventory, and half your backpack. The rest comes back at respawn, unless you suicide or die near base. Then it’s gone. Cry about it.
- Outpost reclaim terminal? Gone. Time to go back to looting like it’s 2018.
- Buffs (like tea) stay after death. Apparently dying doesn’t make you less hydrated.
- 25% less bullet damage in PvP. Gunfights now last long enough for you to crash your mini mid-fight.
Still all subject to change, obviously. But it’s on staging now, so probably real.
